Umme Zakia obtained her B.S.c. in Electronics and Computer Science in 2001 and M.S.c. in Computer Science and Engineering in 2007 from Jahangirnagar University and North South University, Bangladesh, respectively. She received her Ph.D. in Engineering Science in 2022 from Simon Fraser University, B.C., Canada. She was a recipient of several internal and external awards during her doctoral program.

Zakia is an assistant professor of computer science at New York Tech's Vancouver campus. She joined the M.S. in cybersecurity program in 2022 and has admirable teaching experiences at both undergrad and grad levels. In her more than decade-long teaching practices at universities, Zakia has taught computer science, communication network, and cybersecurity courses. She has supervised many student projects (both industrial and academic projects) and has been involved in curricular and extra-curricular activities. Zakia is passionate about teaching and knowledge sharing to enlighten students for their educational and personal enhancements. She is respectful, and cooperative and engages students in innovative and challenging tasks.

Zakia has published some excellent research works in peer-reviewed conferences and journals. She has also served as a reviewer for many IEEE journals and conferences and as a member of the editorial board of Neurorobotics, Frontiers. Her research interests include machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), software-defined networks (SDN), cybersecurity, and anomaly detection.
