Admission Requirements: Master of Computer Science (MCS)
Requirements
You must possess the following credentials in order to be considered* for the Computer Science program at New York Tech Vancouver:
- Four-year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.85 on a 4.0 scale.
- Minimum GRE score of 295 (if required).
- Demonstrated English Language proficiency **
- IELTS Academic or Online: Overall band score of 6.5: with a minimum of 6.5 in Speaking and 6.0 in Reading, Listening, and Writing. ***
- TOEFL iBT or Home Edition: Overall band score of 88; with a minimum of 22 in Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall 58; with a minimum of 62 in Writing; 54 in Reading and Speaking; and 48 in Listening.
- CAEL: Overall score of 60, with a minimum of 50 in Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
- Cambridge English Qualifications: Overall score of 176, with a minimum score of 169 in Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
- Duolingo English Test (DET) Requirement: Effective March 3, 2025, New York Institute of Technology – Vancouver accepts the Duolingo English Test (DET) with a minimum overall score of 135, with no band less than 125. Official DET results must be submitted electronically to New York Tech – Vancouver. Please note that after your DET results are verified, you will be required to complete and pass the New York Tech Internal English Test to meet the English language requirement.

* Minimum requirements. The Master of Computer Science program has a limited number of seats, and only the best applicants will be admitted to the program.
** This is not required if you have a bachelor’s degree from an English-speaking country. Please see our list of countries exempted from English-language requirements.
*** The IELTS indicator test is not accepted for admission.
All New York Tech Vancouver applications are done online and require a non-refundable $50 USD application fee. In addition, you will also be asked to upload the following documents:
- Completed online application.
- Bachelor’s degree completion certificate.
- Semester-by-semester transcripts for all four years of your bachelor’s degree.
- Any transcripts or certificates received beyond your bachelor’s degree program.
- Copy of official GRE score (may be required on a case-by-case basis)
- Proof of English Language Proficiency. *
- Statement of Purpose (recommended).
- A copy of your passport (valid passport only, expired passport will not be accepted).
- One-to-two-page Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Two letters of recommendation from professors who are familiar with your undergraduate work (recommended).
* This is not required if you have a bachelor’s degree from an English-speaking country. Please see our list of countries exempted from English-language requirements.
International students are strongly encouraged to apply at least six (6) months prior to the start of their desired intake term to accommodate the processing of their study permit application with Canadian immigration.
Original documents must be presented to campus officials for verification during new student orientation.
