Master of Energy Management (MEM)

Requirements

You must possess the following credentials to be considered* for the Master of Energy Management program at New York Tech Vancouver:

  • Four-year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree) in science, applied science, or engineering from an accredited college or university.
    • NOTE: For some applicants without a bachelor’s degree in science, applied science, engineering, or a related field, we may offer conditional admission with a flexible pathway to complete the required prerequisite courses to satisfy our admission criteria.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Minimum GRE score of 295 (if required).
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency Tests.
    • IELTS Academic: Overall band score of 6.5 (NOT GENERAL) with a minimum of 6.0 in all bands. IELTS indicator is not accepted.
    • TOEFL iBT: 88 with a minimum of 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing. TOEFL iBT home is accepted.
    • Pearson Academic (PTE)–Academic: Overall 65; with a minimum of 60 in all bands.
    • CAEL: Overall score of 60 with a minimum of 50 in all individual components.
    • Cambridge English Qualifications: Overall score of 176, with a minimum of 169 in all sections.
    • Duolingo English Test (DET) Requirement: Effective March 3, 2025, New York Institute of Technology–Vancouver accepts the Duolingo English Test (DET) with a minimum overall score of 135 with no band less than 125.

      Official DET results must be submitted electronically to New York Tech–Vancouver. Please note that after your DET results are verified, you will be required to complete and pass the New York Tech Internal English Test to meet the English language requirement.
  • Successful completion of the University Pathway Program from one of our partner schools.

    *Applicants will be exempted from submitting an English Language Proficiency Exam if they have completed a diploma, bachelor’s degree or higher, at an institution where the language of instruction and examination was in English in a country where English is the primary language.
    **Test scores must be valid at the time of submission. All test scores and the university pathway program completion are valid for two years from the date of the test. Scores that are more than two years old are not able to be verified and cannot be used for graduate applications.
    Admission Requirements are subject to change.

    Applicants with an overall GPA between 2.85 and 2.99 may, at the discretion of the Vancouver program dean, be admitted into the program. Reasons for discretionary admission include but are not limited to:

    • Submission of official GRE test scores of a minimum of 295, with a minimum percentile rank of 75% in quantitative reasoning
    • Completion of a relevant master’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0
    • Prior work experience
    • Applicant’s potential to contribute to the diversity of the student body (New York Tech Vancouver has identified a list of countries as diversity countries)
    • Other qualifications or experience, as determined by the Energy Management Associate Dean

    Applicants who illustrate the academic competencies and work experience in a relevant field for success in this program may be considered, on a case-by-case basis.

    **Minimum requirements. The Master of Energy Management program has a limited number of seats and only the best applicants will be admitted to the program.

    For applicants without a bachelor’s degree in science, applied science, engineering, or a related field:

    New York Institute of Technology Vancouver is committed to empowering students to achieve their academic and professional goals while maintaining high standards of excellence. Aspiring students interested in the energy management program who do not yet meet the admission criteria may be eligible for conditional admission.

    Students who lack a bachelor’s degree in science, applied science, or engineering, will receive a letter from the associate dean outlining the specific foundation courses required for admission.

    All New York Tech Vancouver applications are completed

    online and require a non-refundable US$50 application fee. In addition, you will also be asked to upload the following documents:

    • Completed online application
    • A copy of your passport (valid passport only, expired passport will not be accepted)
    • Proof of English Language Proficiency (IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT/Home Edition, PTE).
    • Bachelor’s degree completion certificate
    • Semester-by-semester transcripts for all four years of your bachelor’s degree
    • Resume or a curriculum vitae (CV) (1-2 pages)
    • Statement of Purpose (recommended)
    • Any transcripts or certificates received beyond your bachelor’s degree program
    • A copy of GRE score (may be required for some applicants)
    • Two (2) letters of recommendation from professors who are familiar with your undergraduate work (recommended)
