We are happy to announce the upcoming in-person Commencement Ceremony will be held at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at The University of British Columbia on Friday, October 25, 2024.

Graduate and Guest Tickets

Please book Grad Registration ticket and Guest tickets within the one order, as your unique promo access code will expire after use. Once Graduate ticket and complimentary guest tickets are registered, students should receive an email with the order confirmation with instructions on how to retrieve the tickets.

Graduates and guests must scan their tickets to enter the ceremony. Please be prepared to show the QR code upon entry.

Guests

Your registration to the Commencement Ceremony grants you two (2) complimentary guest tickets to the event.

In order to secure tickets for your guests, you must use an access code. Your Access Code is 24NYIT, followed by your student number (e.g. 24NYIT1234567).

Read the instructions carefully, as there are instructions that must be followed in order to register and receive your tickets.

NOTE: Only students that have registered for Commencement will be eligible to receive tickets.

Guests will not be permitted into the theatre until 1:00 p.m., any guests who arrive early will need to wait outside – we encourage all grads and guests to be prepared for any weather by checking the weather forecast prior to your arrival to the venue.

All guests are to keep their phones silent during the ceremony.

Please note that light snacks and beverages will be available for purchase at the concession inside the venue (doors will not be opened to guests until 1 pm).

Guests are encouraged to eat before arriving to the venue or pack a light snack. Restaurants are also within walking distance in and around the UBC campus area.

Event Programme

Live Stream

For guests who are unable to attend the ceremony in person, please stay tuned to this page for the live stream. The live stream will be live 10 minutes before the ceremony begins.

Regalia

Regalia will be distributed at 11:00 a.m. and will be picked up at the Chan Centre. There will be detailed signage directing you to the cap and gown pick-up area. Do not come to campus to pick up your cap and gowns.

Please remember to return your regalia at the end of the event (regalia can be picked up / returned at the Telus Theatre).

If you have NOT registered for the Commencement Ceremony, there will be a LIMITED number of additional caps and gowns available for rent on a first come first serve basis for $36.99 CAD + taxes.

Refreshments

We know it will be a long day for grads to gown, take photos, and sit through the ceremony. All registered graduates will be provided with water. You are advised to prepare your own snacks and refreshments for the day.

Schedule of Events

Diploma

If you are a Fall 2023, Spring 2024 or Summer 2024 (July 2024) graduate and haven’t received your diploma, please pick it up at Diploma Pickup after the ceremony. 

If you completed your degree requirements and fulfilled your institutional obligations in August 2024, you will receive an email when your diploma is available for pickup from the New York Tech Vancouver Broadway Tech Centre campus.

The entrance to the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts is located at 6265 Crescent Road.

Commencement Ceremony Invitation Letter

New York Institute of Technology does not issue individual invitation letters for visa purposes. According to IRCC, graduates can provide their own invitation letters using the guidance on the IRCC website.
